‘The Bio-ism Garden’ presents an abstract, interlocking layout across multiple levels creating a cubism theme throughout, replicating the structural layout of the house.’

Seated on the cantilevered deck provides opportunity for entertainment but notably reflection as the user gazes across the natural pond, channeling down towards the lower pond in front of the new extension. Equally a lookout viewpoint from the new dining room extension provides a view of the lower pond at eye level, with luscious productive planting bordering the terrace whilst channeling the users eye towards the mid-rear section of the garden. A balance of openness from the wide terrace and mystery as planting becomes amplified but looser.
Situated within a conservation area, the protection and promotion of wildlife is at the heart of ‘The Bio-ism Garden’ with habitat havens being present across various levels for a range of species. Notably hornbeam trees, bat boxes, bug hotels, water side vegetation, high pollination planting and the promotion of dark skies all support in providing shelter, food and development for wildlife.
Within the woodland, there are opportunities for exploring, recycling and renewability by the presence of a large composting area and wooden workshop.
Furthermore, the use of Corten steel within the productive garden terraces signifies the Victorian industrial and growth era. The rusty tones of the Corten steel contrasts positively against the use of Cotswold gravel chippings for pathways but blends its bold demeanor delicately amongst planting, enhancing the nature theme of the garden.
Large structures such a wooden pergola, workshop and storage shed discretely blend into the surrounding setting utilizing green roofs and climbing plants; all of which enhance biodiversity within the garden.
Replicating the unique multi-level structure contained internally within the Victorian house ‘The Bio-ism Garden’ presents an abstract, interlocking layout across multiple levels. Within the rear garden, 6 change of level areas are present, each providing a different theme and purpose. Constructed of two paved terraces and ponds, firepit retreat, pond side planting, raised deck terrace and woodland retreat.
Behind the formal and rectilinear structural layout, the user entails an immersive experience from showy, productive planting, luscious dense planting bordering multiple waters, raised platforms and areas of mystery.
Throughout this immersive experience, seamless transitions between the various areas has been achieved through the balance of hard landscaping materials and planting texture and form.
Cotswold gravel chippings compliments the Yorkstone paving/steps in tone whilst contrasting in texture; creating a sedimentary theme as it cascades towards the fluidity of the nearby water and bordering loose, swaying planting. A decked terrace and steps constructed of timber seamlessly transitions to the far woodland section of the garden, renewing a strong structure and form from the Robinia tree and green roof workshop.
